Career support

York has an award-winning careers service with a dedicated careers and placements team. The team helps students explore their options and map their career journey. International students are encouraged to take part in the University’s renowned York Strengths programme. This helps students identify their key skills and plan careers based on what they’re good at. The University has an excellent reputation for graduate outcomes, with 92.5% of York students in work, further study or another positive destination 15 months after graduation (HESA Graduate Outcomes Survey 2022/23, UK and international undergraduate and postgraduate students). 

International student community

At York, new students join a diverse and inclusive community of over 20,000 students from more than 140 countries. Everyone has the opportunity to find their place and make new friends through the hundreds of societies and sports clubs the University of York Students’ Union has on offer. From crafts to cultural societies, there’s something for everyone. 

As a collegiate University, new students at York automatically join one of the University’s 11 colleges. As well as accommodation, colleges provide wellbeing support, social and sporting events, access to facilities such as practice rooms and study spaces, and a ready-made community. 

Campus and location

Close to the historic city centre, the University’s beautiful parkland campus is home to a rich variety of wildlife, with lakes, wetlands, a tree trail and bird sanctuary. York is flourishing, safe and student-friendly.
